Christmas Past: Sharing the Poem that Inspired the Hop (post by Anna, Joys of the Season Blog Hop)
Long, long ago in a high school far away, I composed a book of poetry for my honors English class. (Brag alert: I was valedictorian too.) One of my favorite poems from that collection is called “Joys of the Season.” Yes, the poem inspired the title of this blog hop! A few years after I wrote the poem, I turned it into a song no one but me has ever heard. This holiday season, though, I’m sharing the original poem with all of you.
I’m a tiny bit older now, but I’m still proud of this poem. And at the end, I’ve added a special sentiment especially for my fellow writers. Enjoy!
Joys of the Season
Chilled hands warmed by a fire
The caroling of angel choirs
Icicles upon every tree
And snowmen watching the streets
No more wishing for snow
The houses all begin to glow
Sparkling with lights in every hue
The spirit’s in me and you
These are the joys of the season
The happiest sights around
The joys of the season
Love and friendship abound
If you look very close
You’ll see it’s the most
Wonderful season of all
🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
May Christmas inspire literary thoughts
That lead to glorious new plots
May the New Year furnish
New opportunities to flourish!
🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Merry Christmas to all!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too, KyAnn!
What a lovely poem Anna and I especially enjoyed the last verse. Today we are having snow in Seattle so it does feel like the holiday season!
Thank you, DeeDee! I’m glad you liked it. We’re set to receive our first significant snowfall this week, just in time for the holidays.
Loved your poem, Anna! Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks, Mary!
What a beautiful poem and sentiment! Thank you. I wrote poetry in high school too. I was the poetry editor of the school magazine, but didn’t come close to validictorian. (430 students in my graduating class made the competition fierce) It sounds like you have been creative and brilliant your whole life! Merry Christmas!
Lovely poem, Anna! I wrote reams of poems in my youth (& to be honest, now & then even now)–a friend found one I wrote for the middle school literary magazine–now THAT was embarrassing! Merry Christmas, M. S.
I love blog hops.
